Idle tower defence versus the real thing
Idle mechanics crept into tower defence and split the community. Some players love the passive progress; others feel the strategy drained away. Both camps have a point.
Idle systems shine when they respect your active choices. If placement and upgrades still decide your run, letting the game grind numbers overnight is fine. It's a convenience layer, not a replacement.
The trouble starts when the game plays itself so completely that your input barely registers. At that point you're watching, not playing, and the tension that makes TD satisfying evaporates.
Our rule of thumb: if you can win by ignoring the game, the design failed. Good idle TD still punishes a lazy layout.
